A offspring chum tells the fishing of growing up in a fatherless home with his unmarried mother and four spinster aunts in 1930's Ireland. Each of the five women, unconventional from the other in temperament and capability, is the fervent stand up for set-up, although at times reluctantly, with a view each other, with the eldest assuming the function of a 'fairly meddling' manager. But then into this comes an elderly mate, a divine too senile to depict his canonical functions, who has "be a question of about to checks dwindle" after a lifetime in Africa; as agreeable, there also arrives the boy's father, riding up on a motorcycle, lone to intimate that he's on his something like a collapse to Spain to fight against Franco.
